Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who earlier this year, was appointed the general secretary and in charge of the party's campaigning in the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh again hinted at her contesting from Varanasi, the constituency represented by PM Modi. She said that she will be happy to contest from Varanasi if Congress President and her brother Rahul Gandhi asks her to do so.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has aggressively campaigned for the party in last month with a recent rally in her brother's constituency, Waynad. She was on a two day visit to Waynad. She also visited the family members of VV Vasant Kumar, the martyr who has lost his life in Pulwama Attack and in her speech also paid her condolences to the bereaved families of the people who lost their lives in the multiple blasts in and near the capital city of Sri Lanka.
It's quite evident that Ms. Gandhi Vadra and her brother have been playing their cards very close to their chest. When there were calls for the general secretary to fight from her mother's constituency, she said to the party workers, "Shouldn't I fight from Varanasi?"
If Congress makes her the candidate from Varanasi, it would be India's most closely followed election battle. However, it is also important to note that PM Modi has won the election in Varanasi by a margin of over 4 lakh votes from the nearest rival, Arvind Kejriwal, AAP President.
